Cinema as an Art Form

‘Cinema as an Art Form’ is an introduction to the enthralling world of film as an aesthetic medium, that has historically responded to and grown in consonance with art movements.
Film theorist and Professor, Jeroo Mulla will initiate students into the ways of seeing film, engaging with theory, technique and forms of critique.
(Jeroo Mulla, is the recipient of the Prof. Satish Bahadur lifetime achievement award 2014, for outstanding contribution to film education in South Asia- conferred by the National Institute of Design.)
The course will screen and discuss a range of films which have influenced and have been influenced by art movements, like Surrealism, Expressionism, Futurism, Neo Realism etc. It considers the historical context and implications of these on the form, structure and essence of Cinema.
It is aimed at students and professionals who want a comprehensive and systematic introduction to film aesthetics.
Course Structure:
16 sessions between the 27th of November 2014 to 12th January 2015
Classes to be held on Mondays, Thursdays (evenings) and Saturdays (afternoons)
